Eri-Maria van der Spank – Sandström
My artistic education started in the Netherlands, at the Academy of Fine Arts in Arnhem. I have also studied both in Amsterdam and in Sweden and have got opportunities to work with pictures and images in various ways such as painting in my own studio, mentorship, lecturing in image therapy and related techniques at universities and other courses.
I chose to stay in Sweden, partly in order to combine the experience of the beautiful Swedish landscape and sea with my memories from the Netherlands.
In the 1960:s I joined the Västerås Photo Club, where I also won my first mark of distinction in photography.
In 1968 I joined the Karby Manor Artist Society in Täby, Stockholm County. There I also had my own studio, which nowadays is a graphical workshop.
Since 1968 I have exhibited my paintings and photos in various art galleries, institutions and companies. They have participated in art contests and jury-assessed exhibitions. The exhibitions have been both collective and separate. From time to time I have taken a break in the artistic work, in order to catch up with the family, studies and other work such as image therapist, mentor and lecturer.
My paintings and photos have been spread to various towns in Sweden, in local government offices, hospitals and private collections. They have also spread to other countries such as Spain, USA, India, Belgium, Poland, Norway and the Netherlands.
